RAMIRO PAZ

Ramiro Paz was born in Mendez, Tamaulipas, Mexico and arrived in the Rio Grande Valley twenty years ago.  Ramiro received a degree in art at the University of Texas Pan American in Edinburg. One of his solo exhibits at the university gallery featured colorful clay ocarinas (whistle instruments formed in the shape of animals or human masks).  Ramiro received top honors for decorative ceramics in the 1997 NICHE student competition. The coveted NICHE award recognizes the outstanding creative achievements of craft artists and is given to artists in categories such as glass, fiber, jewelry, wood, metal and ceramics. Entries into the competition are judged on market viability, technical mastery, and originality. Ramiro created a stoneware vessel for the competition entitled "El Trompo".  Ramiro's current work includes raku pottery pieces and says, "art is a neverending journey."
