Artist's Biography:

Emilio Abugarade was born in Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico. He initiated into painting in 1958 under the tutelage of Carmen Harlan-Laroche and later in Mexico City under Luis Sahún and the watercolorist General Ignacio Beteta. Ever since 1962, the date when he first exhibited his work in Mexico City, he has uninterruptedly painted professionally. In November 1967 he traveled to Western Europe, where he remained for 14 months, studying and visiting museums and important art galleries. During 7 years he taught courses on anatomical drawing and watercolor in the Ruben Herrera School of Plastic Arts of the Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila, as well as for three years in the plastic arts workshop of CAVIE (now named ICOCULT). After that he directed workshops on the different techniques he uses in Saltillo, Guadalajara, Culiacan, Mazatlan, all Mexico, and in Brownsville, Texas. He has collaborated as jury member in many art contests and twice in the International Show (the 22nd and 31st) organized by the Brownsville League in Texas. He has in his credit 70 individual art expositions and more than 175 collective showings. He was included in the Diccionario Enciclopédico de la Pintura Mexicana, edited by 500 Años Editores and in 1998 in Signos para la Memoria, Inventory and in the Diccionario Biográfico of Prof. Arturo Berrueto G., edited by the Government of the State of Coahuila.
